Kovai Thambi, a popular producer and the owner of the production house ‘Motherland Pictures’, has now said he regrets for giving Mani Ratnam(a greenhorn at that time), a chance to direct the film. “Mani Ratnam was nobody when I chose him to direct Idhaya kovil. It’s my fault that I had ignored many talented guys and opted for Mani Ratnam to direct the film. From that time onward my production house started faring very badly in films. Mani spent the amount equivalent to making three films while making Idhaya Kovil. “Mani can hardly take credit for the film’s success. I think he’s getting back at me because he can’t stand my criticism on the film Iruvar made by him more than a decade back,” said Kovai Thambi.
