TCA Issues Legal Notice To Vijay Deverakonda And Cricketers Mohammed Siraj, Tilak Varma; Here's Why

The Telangana Cricket Association’s legal notices to Vijay Deverakonda, Venkatesh, Tilak Varma, Ambati Rayudu and Mohammed Siraj have put the proposed TG20 League under a sharper public spotlight. The issue is not about a match appearance alone. It centres on whether the planned tournament has the required cricketing approvals, and whether public figures should promote it before its regulatory status is clear.

Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh in TG20 League controversy

According to news agency ANI, the Telangana Cricket Association has alleged that the TG20 League does not have approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The association has also questioned the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s reported dealings with corporate entities in connection with the proposed league. The notice names prominent film and cricket personalities because of their reported association with the event.

What the Telangana Cricket Association notice alleges

The TCA’s objection is built around authorisation. As per the notice cited by ANI, the association has claimed that the Hyderabad Cricket Association is conducting business with corporate entities without BCCI approval. It has further alleged that promoting a proposed league without such approval may amount to an offence under the relevant cricket administration framework.

The concern is significant because cricket tournaments in India operate within a structured administrative system. The BCCI is the national governing body for cricket in India, while state associations handle cricketing activities within their territories. Any league involving recognised cricket infrastructure, players or public branding usually attracts scrutiny over permissions, affiliations and commercial arrangements.

The TCA has also flagged the role of celebrity endorsements. Actors and cricketers can give a proposed league instant visibility, especially in a market like Telangana, where cinema and cricket have large overlapping audiences. The association’s position appears to be that such visibility may mislead fans, sponsors or young players if the approval status is disputed.

As of now, there has been no public response from Vijay Deverakonda or Venkatesh to the legal notices. There has also been no public clarification from the named cricketers in the matter. Until official responses emerge, the allegations remain claims made by the Telangana Cricket Association through its notice.

Why Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh are in focus

The entertainment angle has drawn attention because both Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh are among the most recognisable Telugu film names linked to the matter. Their reported association with the TG20 League has made the legal notice wider than a cricket administration dispute. It has turned into a story being followed by film fans, cricket followers and regional media alike.

Vijay Deverakonda, in particular, has a strong youth following across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Any sporting event attached to his public image can quickly gain traction online. Venkatesh, a senior Telugu star with a long-standing family audience, brings a different kind of credibility and visibility. That is why the notice has triggered questions about what due diligence celebrities should do before associating with private sporting ventures.

The matter also comes at a busy point in both actors’ professional calendars. Venkatesh is reportedly working on Adarsha Kutumbam, directed by Trivikram. Vijay Deverakonda is attached to multiple projects, including Ranabaali, a historical action drama directed by Rahul Sankrityan, and Rowdy Janardhana, a rural mass entertainer directed by Ravi Kiran Kola.

Ranabaali is being produced by Y. Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni under Mythri Movie Makers, in association with T-Series. The film is slated for theatrical release on September 11, 2026. While the legal notice is unrelated to his films, it has arrived at a time when the actor is already in the news for professional and public-facing activities.

Vijay Deverakonda’s recent Telangana visit

Separately, Vijay Deverakonda recently visited Thummanpet village in Telangana’s Achampet Mandal along with actor Rashmika Mandanna. The visit was linked to a scholarship initiative for meritorious students. Vijay said the effort was intended to support children from the region and encourage discipline and focus among school students.

At the event, Vijay said, “Giving you this small scholarship gift is very small. But I feel it is important for us. I want to be a part of your lives. Slowly, after my village, I want this move to happen across Telangana. This is my dream. I wanted to celebrate the discipline and focus behind it.”

He also shared a list of selected students and wrote, “We are on our way to Thummanpet. The little village where my Father was born. In February, @iamRashmika and I had announced the beginning of a little dream of ours. To reward all the hardworking students of 9th and 10th grade from Achampet Mandal of Telangana. Here is a list of the 180 kids who made their parents proud.”

That public appearance is separate from the TG20 League issue, but it shows why Vijay’s activities in Telangana draw attention. His local connect, fan base and public initiatives often become widely discussed. In this case, however, the focus has shifted to whether a proposed cricket league was being promoted before obtaining the necessary approvals.

The next important step will be the response from those who received the notices and any clarification from the cricket bodies involved. For now, the TG20 League remains under a cloud because of the approval dispute. The controversy also underlines a larger point for celebrities and athletes: public association with sporting events can carry legal and regulatory consequences.
